We get to be kind to ourselves as we navigate this human life, weird as it can get.
Keeping this malleability of our experience in mind, let’s visit these ideas of Resolution, Goals and Intentions. We discussed them at last Sunday’s Meditation Meetup, but here’s a breakdown for those who couldn’t make it:
Resolutions are future oriented, they are a firm, all or nothing commitment.
Goals have a concrete finish line or end date with specific measurable results.
Intentions are fluid and in the present moment, they serve as a compass.
For example, in my life one of my resolutions is that “I don’t waste food.” Full stop. A goal I have for this year is to create as little waste as possible, so anything that I purchase or create that is not recyclable, donatable, or compostable, goes into a jar on my desk. At the end of every month, I can see exactly how much single use plastic I have generated. My intention that I repeat to myself before every purchase, is “I love and respect this Earth.”
You don’t have to have resolutions and goals and intentions to live a good life or have a great year. But if you are a person who sets them, or is inspired by them, see if you can leverage each concepts strengths to bolster the others.
Feel free to message me about your own if you have questions or want to work out some ideas or of your own. I love this stuff 🙂
