If you’ve ever looked at a massage menu and felt more confused than confident, you’re not alone. After 15 years of welcoming clients through our doors at The Gentle Place in Framingham, I can tell you that “I wasn’t sure what to book” is one of the most common things we hear. And it makes complete sense — the world of massage therapy is full of terminology, modalities, and options that can feel overwhelming if you’re not already familiar with them.
What I’ve learned over 15 years is that generally, people aren’t really looking for a specific modality. They just want to know if the massage will meet their needs. Perhaps they need to chill out and relax after a stressful week (or month, or year!). Or the aches and pains of pregnancy bring them in. Some have muscular pain from their job, a sport they love, or a weekend of yard work that got a little out of hand. And then there are clients who’ve had surgery or deal with long term chronic issues, and massage helps them recover or manage their conditions.
The good news is that you don’t need to figure it out before you call us. But if you’d like a simple framework to help you think about what your body might need, read on. We’ve broken everything we offer down into three categories: Relax, Relieve, and Recover. And we serve clients from Framingham, Natick, Sudbury, Ashland, Wayland, and throughout the MetroWest area who fall into all three.
Relax. Release stress, quiet the nervous system, and restore a sense of ease in your body and your soul. Think Swedish massage, hot stone, and our Body and Sole foot scrub.
Release. Target muscular pain and tension from work, sports, pregnancy, or just the demands of everyday life. This is where deep tissue, myofascial release, sports massage, prenatal massage, and tools like cupping and gua sha come in.
Recover. Support healing and restoration after injury, surgery, or long term chronic conditions. Rehabilitative massage, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Shiatsu, and postnatal massage all live here.
Every one of our nine therapists brings their own unique skills and specialties to the table, and between them, they cover all three beautifully. And every massage at The Gentle Place is completely customized for you on the day you walk in, based on how you’re feeling and what your body needs. Just call us, tell us what’s going on, and we’ll match you with exactly the right person.
Over the coming weeks I’ll be diving deeper into each of these categories so you can get a feel for what’s available and see what resonates!
In the meantime, we would love to see you. And if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call!
Come as you are. We’ll take it from there.![]()
