Every athlete knows that massage helps them feel better after a tough workout, but a new study, which actually looked at biopsied muscle tissue, explains why.
In the study, men rode on a stationary bike for one hour, and then had ONE of their thighs massaged for 10 minutes.
The study found that immediately after the massage, the muscle tissue in the massaged leg had LESS cells associated with inflammation. And two and half hours later, the massaged tissue showed MORE cells associated with muscle repair and healing.
The article also states that although medications like Advil reduce the inflammation and pain associated with working out, anti-inflammatory drugs can actually SLOW DOWN the healing process!
So next time, try a massage, instead of a pain medication. Because massage doesn’t just feel good, it’s good for you!
