Yoga Teacher Renee Kozckodan

Why I love yoga, what I teach and why I love to teach yoga ~ A blog post
For me, yoga has been my saving grace.  When life has gotten hard, yoga has always been there to support me and lift me up when I’ve fallen down.  Yoga is not just a physical practice for me.  It is a way of life, a code of ethics.  In my own daily practice, I incorporate the physical asanas (postures) as well as meditation, self study and the study of the yoga sutras.  This helps me to stay grounded, strong and true to myself and others in my daily life.
The style of yoga that I teach and practice is alignment based vinyasa flow.  I was and am attracted to this style because I one hundred precent believe that alignment is essential to protecting myself and others from injury during practice.  It is also a way to bring a meditative quality into my practice… a single pointed focus.  In each asana, I am acutely aware of where my body is in space.  This, for me, is a form of meditation.  It doesn’t allow for outside noise or chatter to come in to my mind.
I love to teach because I feel that it is my Dharma, or life’s purpose, to serve others.  I see teaching yoga as a way to help people heal their minds and bodies.  Nothing brings me more joy then to see a student progress in their physical practice, as well as to see how their physical asanas then positively effect their life off of their mats.  When I lead my students through a well sequenced class, starting with a beginning pose, bringing them through a peak and ending in a deeply restorative savasana, I am thrilled and at peace.
