Building Resilience

Spring IS here, though the weather doesn’t quite know it yet!

Life, like the climate, throws us surprises all the time.   The key to dancing through all of the unknowns, of weather and of life, is resilience.

What is Resilience?

Resilience is the ability to adapt to stressors, to recover quickly from difficulties, or to “bounce back” from adversity.  The concept of resilience can refer to anything in our lives: our mental/emotional well being, our physical health or even the social aspects of living in our communities and on this earth.

Can we learn how to be Resilient?

Resilience is something we can cultivate and build within ourselves… but like building muscle, it takes time and intentionality.   A multipronged approach suggested by the American Psychological Association goes into some great detail on their site, but an overview of resilience tools include:

1. Building Connections: Cultivating friendships and being part of a community,
2. Fostering Wellness: Taking care of your body and practicing mindfulness
3. Finding Purpose:  Self discovery, having goals and helping others
4. Embracing Healthy Thoughts:  Keep Perspective and accept change.
5. Seeking Help and support when you need it.

Tools for resilience at The Gentle Place

At The Gentle Place, we offer lots of ways to help you cultivate and build resilience.  Massage helps you embrace and appreciate taking care of your body, while making you more resistant to injury and stress.  Yoga and Meditation are accessible tools to foster mindfulness and  help you to embrace healthy, positive thoughts.   And from this centered and grounded place, inspiration, purpose and a new perspective can come when you least expect it!

And when it comes to community, our center is a great place to build connections with like-minded people on a journey towards wellness, health and joy.

We would be honored to partner with you as you strengthen your inner resources. And we’re here to help you decide just what classes, massage or healing sessions might be just right for you.

So, give us a call at 508-788-7300… or explore more of our offerings on our website.

We hope to see you, and the beautiful spring weather, soon!

Warm regards,
Donna
